Saturday 18th October - Day 2
After arriving at La Trobe University we met with the other teams completing the Applied technology challenge in a lecture theatre. We soon noticed that we had to compete against teams that were up to Year 8 when we arrived!!!!
After being given our instructions we moved off to our designated room with our supervisor.
We then had three hours to work on our challenge. During this time we had morning tea and also had to complete our Spontaneous challenge.
After 3 hours was up we then packed away all our props and materials and returned to the lecture theatre.
During lunch out on the Simpson lawn we were not able to talk about our challenge.
After lunch we moved back into the theatre and presented our 10 min presentation to the other schools and parents.
Here we are setting up for our presentation
Receiving our participation awards
After the presentations we went back to the Simpson lawn for a drumming session with a group of drummers.
At 5.45pm we then moved to the Eagle restaurant in Campus for a yummy buffet dinner.
This included a BBQ, Chinese, Indian food and Pasta.
At 7pm we then moved to the Union hall for the Prize giving
Applied Technology was the first section to be presented.
We are very proud of the team as we received Honors - which meant that we were the runners up in our section.
Here we are with our medals at Prize giving. We were also excited as we were the only NZ team gain a prize!

Here is the team after checking in at Wellington Airport, we are very excited about our huge adventure ahead!!!!
We had to wait tqo hours for our flight. We entertained ourselves by watching our plane being loaded with all the luggage as well as finding some cool places to take photos.
Our plane was full so it took a long time to get ready and we left half an our late, however we still managed to arrive in Melbourne only 5 mins late.
On the plane we had a yummy dinner and got to watch movies.
When we arrived in Melbourne it was only 6pm as we had gained two hours. After waiting half and hour we travelled on a bus with two other teams from NZ to pour accommodation.
Mrs McKenzie went with us on the bus and then we met the other parents at our accommodation,
after we unpacked we went out for dinner.
Here is a photo of the view of the city from our room!

Wednesday 24th September
Today we looked at examples of previous 3 hour challenges and considered what skills we need to work on. We made a list of skills and then thought about questions we needed to clarify when we have a day at school in the holidays.
We also rehearsed our team work for spontaneous challenges so that we are prepared with a variety of strategies before tournament day in Melbourne.
To finish off we organised our bake sale for tonight!!!
This afternoon we are visiting Kena Kena School to talk to some students who have previously attended the finals in Australia.
Here we are rehearing spontaneous challenges
